The Engine

  • Shamokin Street (between Ridge Ave and 11th) 1100 Shamokin Street Philadelphia, PA, 19123 United States (map)

The Engine is a site dance by AC inspired by the history of the Callowhill neighborhood. The performance will be part of Site/Sound: Revealing the Rail Park, a project supported by Mural Arts; and will include works by visual artist Erik Ruin, composer/musician Rosie Langabeer and others. More info >

Using costume and light Asimina Chremos will perform a series of solo processions along Shamokin Street (whose name means "place of eels" in Algonquin); meditating on the past, present and future of the throughway and the movement of time, energy and matter along it's corridor. She is inspired by the live-giving flow of local tributary waters now hidden underneath area streets; as well as the reverberations of industry in the area, particularly the massive Baldwin Locomotive Works which once dominated the Callowhill district.

This space will be updated when more information is available.
